Sapphire, a variety of the mineral corundum, is typically known for its vivid blue colour but can occur in various colours except for red (ruby). Sapphires are found in metamorphic and certain igneous rocks. Significant sources include Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, and Australia.
