Something to Note...
At Self & Others, we believe that the true power of crystals comes from your personal connection with them.
Rather than relying on lengthy descriptions of what a crystal can do, we encourage you to use your intuition when selecting which crystal you need. Very often the elaborate descriptions will likely leave you feeling more overwhelmed and confused than clarified!
By tuning into your intuition, you'll discover how the crystal can uniquely support you in your journey. Trust the process, listen to the energy it offers, and let it reveal its purpose to you — because the best healing comes from within.
If you need help on how to select crystals, you can follow our “How to Choose Crystals Guide”.
What is Aventurine?
- Chemical Composition: Aventurine is composed mainly of quartz with the addition of tiny mineral inclusions, such as mica, which give it its characteristic sparkle.
- Origin: Aventurine forms through the natural crystallisation process within the Earth's crust. It is produced in various countries worldwide, including India, Brazil, Russia, and the United States.
- Crystal System and Habits: Aventurine belongs to the trigonal crystal system and typically forms in masses or aggregates of tiny, granular crystals.
- Crystal Family or Group: Aventurine is a member of the quartz family. It shares its crystal family with other varieties of quartz, such as amethyst, citrine, and rose quartz.
- Hardness and Durability: Aventurine has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively durable and suitable for use in various jewellery and decorative applications. However, one should handle it with care to avoid scratching or chipping.
- Colour: Aventurine commonly exhibits a green colour; however, it can also occur in shades of blue, red, brown, or even colourless, although these variations are less common. The unique shimmering effect, known as aventurescence, is due to mineral inclusions like mica.
Methods for Cleansing and Charging Aventurine
- Water: Aventurine is safe to cleanse with water. You can hold the stone under running water from a tap or a natural source like a river or stream for a few minutes.
- Sunlight: Aventurine can be safely placed in sunlight to cleanse and recharge its energy. However, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause the stone's colour to fade.
- Moonlight: Aventurine benefits from the energy of the moon. Leave it overnight in moonlight, especially during a full moon, to cleanse and rejuvenate its energy.
- Sound: Use sound vibrations to cleanse aventurine. You can place the stone near a singing bowl, use a tuning fork, or create sound waves with your voice to clear any stagnant energy.
- Smoke: Cleanse aventurine by passing it through the smoke of sage, palo santo, or other cleansing herbs. The smoke helps purify and reset the stone's energy.
- Visualisation: Envision a bright, pure light surrounding aventurine while holding it in your hands. Intend for any negative or stagnant energy to be released, and visualise the stone filling with positive and revitalising energy.
- Storage and Protection: Aventurine is relatively durable and resistant to scratching but can still chip and break if knocked hard enough. Following these care practices ensures that your aventurine remains energetically charged and ready to support you on your journey.
How to Use Aventurine?
- Meditation and Spiritual Work: Use aventurine during meditation by holding it near your heart chakra or in your hands. Its energy promotes emotional healing and openness to new opportunities.
